Taking Stock

What are your web design goals?  My goals are to become a professional web designer.  I would really like to be able to do it freelance, so I can work from home.  Even if I can’t do that at first, that is my long term professional goal.  Once I complete my schooling it would be such a great opportunity to get to work for a company that I can grow in and develop professionally.  Then I can have the knowledge and experience to be able to do it on my own. 

Which aspects of web design interests you the most?  I really feel like the graphic design and the interface design would be the areas I would be most interested in.  I like knowing I’ve created what the whole world sees.  Creating the “pretty” side of the site is appealing to me.  Functionality is a very important aspect of the site too.  So the interface design part of the creation is very important and is something I would like to be a part of. 

What current skills do you have that will be useful in creating web pages?  I am a creative person and I love to create things and take pride in the finished product.  I have a very organized, almost neat freak, kind of personality.  I think this is very important when it comes web design, because things have to flow right to work right. 

Which skills will you need to brush up on?  I will definitely need to brush up on the technical skills of web design.  I need to learn and get comfortable with all the code and understand the different things that make up the content of the site. 

Which hardware and software tools do you already have for web design?  I have a very good up to date computer.  It has plenty of memory for what I am going to be doing.  I also have a digital camera.  I am in the process of getting my second computer set up and going.  I currently have Adobe Photoshop.   

Which tools do you need to buy?  Which tools would you like to buy eventually?  I need to buy a larger monitor, and a scanner.  I also need to purchase my Adobe CS4.  In the future I would like to purchase more graphics software.

What about this course most excites you?

What about this course most excites me?  Taking this course opens up so many opportunities for me.  I made the decision not to go on to college after high school.  I am completely happy with my role of being a wife and a mother, but I have always wondered what I could have done.  I have always felt like there was some hidden potential hiding inside me, just waiting for me to let it out.  Learning web design and developement will help me take that next step in discovering my potential. 

I love to learn new things and understand “why” they work.  Most people don’t really think about what really goes into creating a website.  They just know it’s there for them to look at and enjoy or learn from and that is as far as it goes with most people.  I really want to be able to look deeper into things.  To have the knowledge of what really went into creating a site is exciting!  It’s kind of like an architect, other people see a building, they see all the ins and outs of the project.  I think creating something you can really be proud of is one of the most rewarding accomplishments in life. 

I can’t wait to get started and see what the world of web design and development will open up for me!
